Education

I graduated from South Lakes High School, earning an IB diploma with 32 points overall. My best subjects in high school were history, literature, and languages, though I also enjoyed math. I attended the University of Pittsburgh for international studies and linguistics, with a minor in mathematics, and earned a 3.7 GPA before transferring to the University of Virginia, where I am currently enrolled.

Experience

-Tutored other students while in high school as a volunteer -SAT (w/ writing) 2100, ACT (w/ writing) 31 -SAT Subject tests: US History 760, World History 730, Literature 700, Math 2 610 -IB exams: History HL 5, English HL 5, German HL 6, Math Studies SL 6, Latin SL 4, Biology SL 4 -IB Extended Essay written on post-WWII political economy and foreign relations of Poland -AP exams: US Government and Politics 4 -Native-level German and English, conversational Russian -Experience with elementary school-age children as daycare attendant Overall, I believe I would be a very effective tutor. Not just because I have always done well in school and enjoyed learning and helping others learn, but because I also know what it is like to struggle to do well in a class where the material doesn't come naturally. I am a very honest person, and I know how important it is for a student to receive honest feedback on their work and where they need to improve, but at the same time, I know how to correct mistakes and give criticism in a way that won't discourage someone from continuing to make an effort to learn. I believe education is the variable in leading a successful life which we can have the most control over, and it can also immeasurably enrich a child's life if properly encouraged and nurtured. I hope you consider me for your child's tutor.

Hobbies

My interests have always leaned in an academic direction. I've always loved history and literature, and recently I've become more interested in linguistics and mathematics. Still, I have other interests outside of studying, of course! I consider myself a fairly athletic person; I run and bike in my free time, and in the summers I try to swim as often as I can. I like playing casual games of soccer or football with friends, and my favorite sports to watch are soccer, baseball, and hockey. When the weather doesn't permit being outside, I'll stay in and read or write, or try to learn a new skill, like cooking or piano. Sometimes I watch TV. Since I was in elementary school I've also enjoyed writing in my free time. I like to think that I've developed my ability in many different styles over the years, and also that I've developed my own personal voice in my writing. I owe this mostly to the fact that I'll read almost anything that's available to me, as well as to having a lot of free time in my first couple years of high school. If I had to summarize, I'm a bit of a nerd, but a reasonably well-rounded one.
